Anonymous sources point accusing fingers at the governor’s chief of staff-
The internal bickering within the ranks of the ruling All Progressives Congress , APC in Benue State may have taken a dangerous turn as the convoy of the Senator representing Benue North East Senatorial District , Barr. Emmanuel Udende Yesterday, 22nd June, 2024 narrowly escaped a deadly attack on the Zaki Biam – Afia-Gbeji road.
It is important to recall that the APC has been in a cold war with members of the National Assembly and other major stakeholders loyal to the SGF, Senator George Akume, and those loyal to the governor of Benue state, Rev. Father Hyiacenth Alia.
Udende has long been loyal to the SGF. During the administration of Senator Akume as Governor of Benue State, he served as Commissioner for Information and as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and their relationship has evolved from servant-master to friendship.
Senator Udende, the Anti Corruption Senate Committee Chairman, was en route to Afia for a town hall meeting when he encountered bandits stationed in the Gbagir area. However, upon noticing the robust security accompanying the Senator’s convoy, the bandits swiftly retreated through a nearby bush path. The brave security officers on the Senator’s convoy then chased after the fleeing bandits, who abandoned weapons and ammunition such as magazines, grenades, and bags filled with charms.
For security reasons, sources in the APC who would not want their identities revealed have accused the Benue State governor’s chief of staff, Rt. Hon. Paul Biam of masterminding the attack and acting under the instructions of some higher authorities to eliminate the senator, who they deemed a political threat to their future political ambitions.
The anonymous sources are of the opinion that the Governor’s COS is also working with a former governor in the axis who is a PDP Chieftain to cripple Sen. All his political opponents have been threatened by Udende’s robust political profile in Sankera.
One of the militia gangs terrorizing the Sankera axis is controlled by the COS to the governor, adding that it was the same gang that attacked the senator’s convoy yesterday.
Attempts to reach Senator Udende on the phone or his Legislative Aide on Media have failed, as neither the Senator nor his aide have responded to messages or calls.
